The leak of Kelly's questioning did not come as a surprise to teammates. "You know, now that I think about it, he often shows up with what looks like a glazing on his face." said Titans first baseman Rob Jacobi. Former teammate Bob Kohler added, "I knew he was getting bigger, but you know I just thought he was fat."

Kelly on "Kreme"
CHICAGO-Mike Kelly told a federal grand jury that he ingested a white substance and a 'kreme' supplied by one of many local distributors on a daily basis since 2000 but said he never thought they enhanced his on-field performance, chicagotitans.com has learned.
Federal prosecutors charge that the distributor known in its investigation only as "KKD" distributed undetectable performance enhancers to many MSL athletes in the form of a white (sometimes brown) bottled liquid as well as the round cake-like 'kreme' that was orally ingested and sometimes rubbed into the body via the chin and cheeks.
Kelly testified that he originally had received the 'kreme' from a former teammate who would bring one or two dozen of them to the ballpark. According to transcripts, Kelly stated that that the 'kreme' would
Kelly stated the 'kreme' would "Give me a lift, it was kinda like a sugar-rush". |
During the four hour proceeding, two prosecutors presented Kelly with documents that allegedly detailed his use of a long list of performance enhancers and drugs including: Zovirax, Cialis, Depakote, the undetectable enhancer known as 'kreme', as well as the the white liquid supplement in addition to MGD.
The grand jury questioning comes on the heels of long held suspicions that the all-star catcher had been 'juicing'. Kelly's size and batting average have increased enormously since his rookie season of 1998 when he broke in at a scrawny 150 lbs. while hitting .220. In 2004, Kelly hit for a .423 average while posting a team high .491 slugging percentage.
