Titans Steal One From Bandits

 

Chicago, IL--Pinch Runner Ivan Romo stole home on a double steal in the bottom of the 9th Thursday topping the River Bandits 10-9.

 

The Titans got on the board early scoring three in the first on Gary Bjorklund's RBI single and Jim Bose's 2-out RBI Double. The club scored three more in the fifth. With one out Lorenzo Gallaga tripled to right center and was chased home on Kyle Eick's single to left.. Bandits pitcher Rick Berdelle then walked Bjorklund before giving up a single to Sears and a two run hit to Jacobi.

 

Titans hitters added two more runs in the 7th, and one in the eighth before Romo scampered home with the winning run in the ninth.

 

"We had some options there." said manager Wayne Hegner "Eick handles the bat well and after Gallaga singled moving Romo to third it was a choice of letting Kyle hit, squeezing in the run, or run a walk-off play. We chose the walk-off and it worked."

 

Due to a pre-game injury to Mike Salling, Titans ace Mike Gagliano (5-0) was advanced in rotation to take the ball. Gagliano was solid through five allowing five runs (2 earned), striking out two while walking one. However Jim Bose earned the win by pitching a scoreless ninth.
